Final Checklist b4 taking the 1449/1/2 paper

Paper 1

You must know these:

round off a number to 2 or 3 significant figures
express a number in standard form
express a standard form as a single number
solve linear equations in 1 variable
express a base 5 number as a number in base 8
add and subtract numbers in base 2
changing expanded notation to a single number
express a base 10 number to base 8
sum of interior angles formula in polygons
properties of rhombus, parallelogram, pentagon, hexagon , heptagon, octagon, nonagon and decagon
sum of exterior angles in a convex polygon is 360º
number of sides in a regular polygon is 360º divide by 1 exterior angle
number of symmetries in a regular polygon is 360º divide by 1 exterior angle also
when doing polygon questions, note every special characteristic or key words, like isosceles will mean 2 sides equal, equilateral will mean all equal sides and angles, regular will mean all sides equal….
know where is the angle between the tangent and a chord
know how to use the common tangent to solve problems
translation must be defined by . Check which is the object before you proceed to find the image
you must know how to find the centre of rotation and angle
reflection is the line in the middle between the object and image
scale factor is the length of the image ÷ length of the object
recognize the graph of tangent, for cos and sine, where they meet
Pythagorean triples like 3,4 and 5 : 6, 8, and 10: etc
finding the value of tangent, cos or sine in a triangle
where is sin ө in the ordered pair of the unit circle
using "all science teachers clever" to find the required angles in the circle
naming and marking the angle between a line and a plane
naming the angle between a plane and a plane
where mid points are given in the diagram, use them
angle of depression means from the top you look down
angle of elevation means from the bottom you look up
find the location of a place on the surface of the earth

use ( ө x 60 ) to find the distance along the meridian/ longitude
use ( ө x 60 x cos of that latitude) to find the distance along the latitude
shortest distance to a point
calculate the speed of the aeroplane
B is west of A means B is on the left
in bearing, complete the triangle if 3 points are given an draw up the north
use alternate angles and complete rotation to get the bearing
bearing must be calculated starting from the North, clockwise and in 3 digits
be careful when the North is slanted
in algebraic formulae, the subject of the formula must always be positive value, single and preferably on the left
in algebraic expressions, know factorization and expansion
addition and subtraction of algebraic fractions
the 5 rules in Indices especially the bracket formula ( raising the formula)
if you see indices in the format of equation then make the base the same first
in linear inequalities, the negative term on the right must always be changed to a positive term
mode, median and mean of a grouped data
pie and bar chart calculations
identify any quadratic, reciprocal or cubic graph
know how to substitute a given value into the function
in sets, list carefully the required elements before using union or intersection or prime to obtain the answer
unless bracket is given, solve from left to right
in the straight line, remember the 3 ways gradient is asked
remember how to find the x intercept
the equation of the straight line also
finding the probability of something means the answer must be in fractions
list all the outcomes in probability
differentiate between how to find probabilities in card format and in table format.
in matrices, know how to add or subtract or multiply matrices
the meaning of no inverse and its application
in variations, differentiate between varies directly as / varies inversely as
careful with cube or cube roots – read carefully
the constant value, k, must be obtained before any further calculations

Paper 2

in shading the area represented by linear functions, know the correct area to shade- above the line means greater, below the line means lesser, on the right means greater, on the left means lesser, dashed line means not inclusive of the line
in shading the area represented by sets, number every part first before you solve the question. Remember, union means all; intersection means only the same, prime means the complement and always solve the bracket first.
draw a venn diagram to show the relationship between all the sets
in solid geometry, volumes of shapes are given but for surface area the formula given may not necessarily be correctly used for example: total surface area of hemisphere is 3π² and not 2π²
for composite ( combined) solids, make sure you need to add or minus before you proceed.

to calculate the angle, first write the angle, example : ABC, then use trigonometry to calculate
in mathematical reasoning, must know meaning of statement, converse, implication, conclusion, induction and deduction

in straight lines, what is the meaning of parallel lines, how to find the equation with a gradient and a point, ho to find the coordinate of the 4^th vertex in a rhombus and the x intercept
in quadratic equations, arrange to the order of before you solve for x
in matrices, a matrix with no inverse means ad-bc = 0, the determinant is ad-bc and the inverse means , where I is the inverse.
in calculating sectors, get the radius correctly, the angle and then see whether you need to add or minus.
in calculating perimeter, is it whole diagram or shaded area, just follow the requirements
in probability, must know how to calculate :one card taken at random and two cards taken at random : the meaning of " at least one card " and "both cards "
In distance time graph, in finding the distance just refer to the y axis and for time taken, just refer to the x axis.
In the speed time graph, area under the graph is the distance

1	Use volume of prism to find the height
2	Volume of identical spheres
3	Use volume of pyramid to find the height/ length of square
4	Surface area and volume of hemisphere
5	Net of cube
6	When drawing the graph of functions, remember to use the axis given, plot correctly and draw the graph without using ruler. U only use a ruler when u see all the points lined up in straight line.
7	Describe a circle in full: Circle , radius x units about centre O.
8	Identifying a function from a table or coordinates
9	The four rules in loci : how to get circle, angle bisector, parallel lines, perpendicular bisector and point of intersection.
10	Identify the scale factor of the given object and image shapes. Scale factor is i/o
11	Drawing the image under a given scale, 1: 1/3 or 1 : 3 for example
12	Find the mode , median and mean of a grouped data
13	Drawing the line graph, bar chart and pie chart ( be careful when calculating the sector angle).
14	When solving this inequality -3x > 11 + x, remember to change the sign to < when the negative term becomes positive.
15	Listing the integer values correctly when given two inequalities like x> -2 and x < 4.
16	Drawing the image of an object under rotation and translation.
17	Ratio in 2 quantities: finding the total / difference
18	Average speed given the distance and the time
19	Circles : the 4 theorems and Pythagoras theorem together
20	Perimeter of the whole diagram and Area of the shaded region involving area of rhombus
21	Linear Inequalities remember to change the sign if the left x-term is negative
22	Careful when u list all the integers that satisfy the inequalities
23	Mid points and finding the length of a line.
24	In indices, check the format: got bracket means solve the powers of the bracket, then check whether x or divide. If the question says simplify = make it simple, if evaluate means find the value. If u see an equation, make sure the bases are the same.
25	Algebraic expressions, u must know hw to factorise 2 terms, 3 terms and 4 terms. Refer to the booklet.
26	Must know to solve algebraic fractions and simplify terms
27	In algebraic formulae, use 5 skills to get the subject of the formulae: shift, cross multiply, LCM, square or root and factorise
28	In trigonometry, must know Sine x, Cos x and tan x. use trigo to find the length.
29	In geometrical constructions, remember angle bisector , drawing a quadrilateral, drawing 60 degrees and 45 degrees.
30	In linear equations, remember hw to solve simultaneous linear by elimination or substitution , expand the brackets and solving like terms.
31	Digit value and place value
32	Rounding off to the nearest ten thousand or thousand
33	Finding the LCM and HCF and prime numbers.
34	Find the percentage increase/ decrease
35	Find the percentage of a quantity
36	Lines and angles: solving using perpendicular lines and transversals
37	Polygons : combination of triangle and quadrilateral, find number of sides, heptagon and octagon.
